Central Baptist Church recognizes the value of children
Central offers a ministry that allows children to grow into their faith by offering age appropriate Sunday school classes and choirs, developmentally appropriate worship opportunities, mission-oriented opportunities, and family fellowship activities.
Sunday school begins at 9:45 am for all ages. We use a variety of curriculums we have found that are especially helpful for each age group. Children 2 years through Kindergarten use Gospel Light’s preschool Sunday school curriculum. Children in 1st-2nd grade use Cokesbury’s Deep Blue Sunday School curriculum. Our older children, 3rd-5th grade use Crosswalk. This curriculum follows the Revised Common Lectionary which is used most weeks in worship planning making it easier for families to have discussions about the lesson of the week.
Children’s church is offered year-round for children ages 4-kindergarten. Children ages 4-kindergarten will be dismissed from the church service after the children’s sermon. With the help of parent volunteers, the children are involved in a lesson that is an extension of the Sunday school lesson. This way children who attend Sunday school will have a reinforcement of the lesson and children who only attend worship that day will not miss out on the week’s lesson.
The regular nursery schedule is:
Sunday: 8:30 am-12:15 pm
Monday: Once a month for Purses in the Pew ministry 10:45 am-12:00 pm
Tuesday: 9:30 am-1:00 pm (for our Feeding Our Friends ministry)
Wednesday: 5:30 pm-7:45 pm
*and other times for special events
Central Baptist houses two ministry teams fully focused on our children.
Both the Nursery Ministry and Children’s Ministry teams are comprised of the Children’s Minister as well as volunteer parents and grandparents. Each team has 7 members. These teams help make decisions about curriculum, activities, safety, and nursery staff.
Activities planned throughout the year include:
- an Easter Egg Hunt
- Christmas activity
- a Fall Hayride
- Family Fun Nights
- Summer outings (i.e. Skyzone, Stone Mountain, etc.)
- a back-to-school pool party
- hands on mission opportunities through Bridging the Gap, One Roof, and other local organizations
- Vacation Bible School (July)
